Question: 2x Tele converter help?

Hi there,

Just wondering if it’s worth buying a 2x tele converter to extend the focal length of my canon lens, but I’m not sure just how much they affect the final image. I know that they reduce the amount of light coming in by up to two stops, and they also affect the picture quality, but can anyone tell me just how much they affect the image in comparison to using just the lens? I have an 18-55mm and a 70-300mm.

Answer: The 2x converter does affect your picture quality, it makes it a bit “softer, not horribly, but still softer. Sometimes it’s worth the trade off.

Be aware, that you’ll probably lose your auto-focus capabilities, and will have to focus manually.

I have a the originial 2x, the reviews of the 2x ll, are some what better.

Edit: I just read the other answer, and am wondering which one of us read the question correctly. The 2x extender most certainly has more glass, the Canon Auto Focus Extension Tube EF 25 II, has no glass, just an air filled tube for macro photography.

Im buying the gun S5 IS and I'm thinking of buying the Canon TC-DC58B Tele Converter Lens. His 150 $ … and what I know is that the difference in my photos and the camera?
