Question: How I can set the lighting for a portrait studio?

I have been an outdoor photographer for 20 years. higher part of my photography is sports and special events. But I think there's much more money to be made at the wedding. But for the life of me I can not understand how set the ignition. I have a background and two umbrella lights. but the photos are still seen. like my niece age 6 who took them. . I hate having to take a class only for lighting. but what do I have todo. Ok, it seems that the idiots are not the answer to read the full story. so let me clarify a little more. I've been in press photography, where lighting is natural for me. However, this is the studio lighting. Im not something familiar. So please photographers only real answer to this question. Because REALL photographers understand what I'm saying. Thank you all for your great advice I learned a lot from everyone except the first. You truly are a credit to the field.

Answer: You have received good advice. I assume you have a flash meter. If not, get one. It is vital for studio flashes. For a quick and easy setup, set your main light at an angle 45 degrees in the subject. Take a light reading of the subjects under his chin. Sure to point the light meter. Also, make sure that the second light is not on. When you receive your reading, and set off the main light of a second behind his camera. Set the output of light to get a reading of a stop below (the top number) as the main light. To do this, set the counter under the chin pointing to the issues and fill light. For example, if your main light registered F8, the fill light set to F5.6. This will give you a nice light ratio. Then simply set your camera to open the main light reading ((F8 in this example), turn both lights, and take the picture. Once you learn that, you can play with other light angles and proportions. Edit: Except for comment, I see a lot of people trying to help. For your information, I'ma professional and I thought he was giving useful information. His "stupid comment" was totally out of place. I will ensure that never again try to help.
