Answer: Go to Wall-mart buy some work lights and white lights bulbs (555 kelvin balanced just about every wear now) with a little creativity rig the umbrellas (white are hard to find but there out there)
I’ve had to do it on assignment when part of my equipment got lost. Not the best but better than nothing.

Q: What is the picture the difference between the soft box diffuser and an umbrella and it is best to use?

Still take Pictur of subjects and my children, I wonder what is the best way to use the soft box or umbrella or both?

Answer: A soft box generally produce more diffuse and therefore softer light. However, it is less versatile than an umbrella that can be used in different ways. Many have an umbrella black cap that can be removed so you can shoot through the umbrella. In doing so, it is very similar to a soft box. If you put the cover and shoot the light in the umbrella, are reflected and produce a more concentrated light. You typically use the soft box in the studio and shoot through the umbrella in place. I will use the umbrella as reflectors if I am in search of dramatic light. To answer your specific question, both have a purpose, but if only going to get one, get an umbrella that can used both as a reflector and a diffuser (shoot through) and get the most out your investment. Have fun!
