Question: Temporary RRoD Scaring me?

I was playing Wanted: Weapons of Fate when my 360 just shuts down. I walk up to it and I see 3 red rings. I get really scared and shut off the power socket and then when I turn it on again I see the lights are gone and it’s working fine.

My 360 is in a horizontal position and shares a power adapter with the TV, a set top box, and a DVD player, although only the 42 inch plasma and the 360 were turned on at that point. Theres about 6 inches in between the 360 and back of the TV and 1 foot between the 360 and the wall.

I’m very worried this will happen again and I don’t have microsoft’s warranty because it doesn’t apply in my country, pretty much you break it go f@ck yourself.

I’m worried this will happen again, I moved the 360 to a vertical position and used an extension cable to connect the 360 to a single power socket (are extension cables ok?).

Will this happen again? Can I avoid it? I really can’t afford getting a new 360 or fixing it =[

Answer: First of all i don't know if it will happen again.

The best thing i can say is to keep it well ventilated. The best way to do that is to keep it in an open space rather than in an enclosed space and try to have at least a foot of clearance all around your system.

I heard that the vertical position ventilates it better than the horizontal position but then there is a risk of it falling over and scratching your disc.

I don't think extension cords would hurt your system.

Also check the temperature in the room the 360 is in. If it is in a hot room you might want to consider turning the temperature down for that room or moving to a cooler room.

Question: Replacing the annular seal wax on the toilet?

There are toilets at the old church that leak around the base when flushed. I intend to replace the seals of wax, but have never done before. The hold-bolts are very rusty course so I've soaked in penetrating oil, but I'm always afraid they will break. They should be replaced anyway. Are they replaceable? Is there another part that I need another seal? Is there some kind of adapter between the sewer and toilet?

Answer: This is not a complicated job, but it can be messy. You must first cut the water supply. Then rinse and hold the handle until the water stops flowing out of the tank. Get rubber gloves, a bucket and a big sponge. Use the sponge to absorb water reamining in the bowl and tank. Then unhook the water supply. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the toilet. However, The really nasty part. Scrape off any old wax from the bottom of the toilet and the drain flange. The collar should have slots on the sides where bolts go, and must be flush with the floor. If not you'll need more parts. If the flange is cracked, it should be replaced. You can buy new wax ring with new bolts included. I put the new device directly on the flange. Then put the bolts in flanges so they recover. The tricky part is getting back on the toilet. Try to line everything up so the bolts come through the base of the toilet and you begin to compress the wax with a single shot. If you mangle the wax to move many things around it will leak. Once the bolts through continue to push down on the toilet with a gentle rocking motion. Once he feels now, sit. Be careful to tighten the nuts. If you tighten too much you can break the base of the toilet. Make them comfortable, and squeeze more after it decided. Reconnect water supply, turn back on the water and give it a test flush. If it does not leak that you're done. I suggest you take one part before going shopping to see what you need. If one has a flange bad, chances are others will too. Just keep receipts.
