Question: Nikon camera body for a Nikkor AF-S 18-200mm lens?

I was recently given a Nikkor AF-S 18-200mm lens. Apparently it’s a pretty good lens. I do not have a camera body at the moment and I was looking at the Nikon D50,D40,D40x or D60. I am an amateur but am very interested. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Answer: Tony, congrats!!
Thats an awesome lens, and being AF-S, means it will autofocus on ANY Nikon DSLR, from the D40 to the top of the line D3X. So save some money on a camera, and call Adorama or B&H and see if they have a Nikon DSLR body you can buy that is within your price range.

Right now the D40 can be had for super cheap, brand new and it’s a wonderful entry level DSLR that will surprise you with what it can capture, I recommend you stay away from the D60 and D40x, as they are not worth the price over the D40, and the only real upgrades would be a D80/D90, as they have the built in autofocus motor, I was never a fan of the D50 myself, BUT that is purely a personal reason only, it is a fine camera.

Question: Nikon 18-200 VR lens is not fully compatible with the D70 body. How to make it work?

Nikon 18-200 VR lens at F/18 not to infinity focus with D70 body. There is no firmware update available for this model. Can anyone suggest solution for this?

Answer: This is a problem with the camera, not the lens. You can only manually focus the lens. Maybe you want to buy a new camera (eg D40, D80).
