Answer: "Universal size"? No. tripods are mades for different weight cameras/camcorders.
Like shirts, "One size fits all" can work, but not very well... especially if the wearer is REALLY large or REALLY small. In this case, if the camcorder or camera is big or small and if the tripod is big or small.
Will the consumer-grade tripod's screw-mount fit all consumer cameras and camcorders? Yes - if the cameras or camcorder has a screw mount hole in the bottom, it should fit a consumer tripod.

Question: What do I use to watch 8mm camcorder tapes on a VCR?
I don't have the camcorder just the tape.
Answer: It can't be done.
VCRs operate VHS tapes. An adaptor will allow an old format VHS-C, but trying to get an 8mm tape to play on a VHS VCR would be like putting a DVD into a CD player.
You will have to borrow an 8mm camera and dub it to VHS.

Answer: You can do this with StashSpace a tape to DVD conversion service video. They specialize in converting home movies and did a great job with all my VHS and VHS-C. What you do is mail them the tapes and will be converted to digital for you. The cost is $ 7 per tape for video transfer, but they are running a promotion at this time when the conversion is free if you get a premium account ($ 100 for a year of archiving video.) You can get DVDs back now or you can use their online application form to see your work online to share, edit and create DVDs. Great works for the combination of footage from multiple tapes and the creation of themed movies like "Birthday Party". DVDs are $ 15 and burned them.
