Question: Question about the Canon Speedlite 270EX?
Would the Canon Speedlite 270EX be okay if I just need a bounce flash? Or would the 430EX II be better since you can rotate it in different directions?
Answer: The 270EX is a good beginner flash. While it’s main purpose is to give you more power than your built in, it does let you bounce flash straight on from at several different angles. This suites a lot of peoples needs that just want to get direct flash off of their subjects.
What it doesn’t offer
LED assist(which allows you to focus fast in low light).
Flash zoom
Ability to be a “slave” flash
and custom functions. It will also offer slower recycle times and less power
Just weigh what you will be doing with it…how often…will you ever want to upgrade (i.e. add the 530 to have a master flash). Do you need a LOT more power, or just some. Keep in mind when you bounce, depending on how high/far/brightness you will need extra power.
Also if you take a lot of shots in portrait (sideways) you will need the head to swivel to bounce off the ceiling (with the 270 you could only bounce off the wall)

Question: I have a Canon Rebel XTi 400D digital camera and need to know what other equipment I need (see below)? To be able to use as a studio camera. I bounce flash, sync cord and such, but just do not know what I need to have my pictures come out with a professional "look" Yes, I am new to photography, and there are so many things I'm not sure how to proceed. Is there a "base" to work with the list when you have the Canon. Thank you in advance for your help! Let me rephrase that, I received this camera as a gift and I try to set up a studio to "learn" how to use it properly. I need a basic list that I can practice and learn what each piece of equipment contributes to the scene, but I do not want to buy a lot of things that are not necessary.
Answer: I would suggest some lighting equipment (Http: / / alienbees.com) and sets, reflectors, soft box, light tent, which raises stools (that rotates). Also a press remote a tripod, extra batteries, the Canon EF 50mm 1.8 lens is a lens poitras well and is good for photos of commercial products. Or if the move permits, the Canon EF 65mm f2.8 f2.8 Macro or 100mm (is also ideal for poitraits). Generally you will need a big bank account.

Question: Canon VIXIA HV30 question?
I am planning on buying the HV30 as well as the Rode shotgun mic http://www.amazon.com/Rode-VideoMic-directional-Condenser-microphone/dp/B0007U9SOC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228966847&sr=8-1 My question is, would the mic work in the shoe that is on the camera or would I need an adapter. Thanks
Answer: The HV30′s accessory shoe is standard size (not like to small one the Sony’s use).
Worst case, if it does not fit, get a “camera bracket” – use that to search amazon. The Bower is cheap and has two accessory shoes (mic/light) and is a handle…
