Answer: First and foremost I would like to say: SUPER 8 FILMMAKING IS ALIVE AND WELL.

The prices for 3 minutes and 20 seconds (18 frames per second) or 2 minutes and 30 seconds (24 frames per second) of color film are around $18.00 to $20.00.

Black and white film runs around $12.00 to $14.00.

As for processing, the prices run around $10.00 to $20.00 per cartridge.

At this point, you must decide if you want to transfer the film to video for editing, edit in camera, or splice together your film.

Transferring Super 8 to digital is done through a process called telecine. You can either purchase the equipment to do this yourself or send it off to a business that specializes in this process.

You might consider the following types of Super 8 cameras (they have professional capabilities, quality lenses):

Nikon R10, Nikon R8, Nizo 801, Nizo Professional, Bauer A512, and the Bauer S 715.

These are all cameras that can sell for $100 to $400.00 (or more) depending on their conditon (on EBay). In a camera store you will pay significantly higher prices.

The reason for this, is that these cameras many times need professional cleaning and lubrication when you purchase them on EBay.

Beaulieu is also a beautiful series of cameras. I didn’t mention them in the list above because they do not run on AA batteries. They use their own batteries that often need to be recelled or replaced. Sometimes this can create additional costs, etc. They are beautiful cameras though.

I personally would go the EBay route. You can get some very nice cameras for good prices. Just realize that you SHOULD send the camera off for a professional cleaning, et cetera. Ask the seller if they have had the camera serviced recently.

Do your homework. Browse the links I supplied. Google for more links. Join forums and talk to other filmmakers. See what their favorites are and why.

In regards to your other question about similar formats as Super 8 . . . you will often find reference to Single 8. Interestingly enough, Single 8 is often considered a superior format. It just isn’t in as wide use as Super 8. I think the only place that you can process Single 8 film is in Japan. I may be wrong.

I have a digital filmmaking degree and wanted to learn more about filmmaking through Super 8. The contrast ratio is something that mini-dv, HD, et cetera cannot reproduce (at this time). Maybe in the future, but until that time, film will have something to offer that digital cannot.

Question: What kind of camera would you choose provided the money? An (HD EX1) or a Super 16mm film camera?

Moi? Well, I like the EX1, but with the prices of cards and the lack of records I think get a super 16mm (Aaton or Eclair ACL, they are not noisy). But I would hear other opinions on this subject. I plan to use it for weddings.

Answer: I understand quite where you come from … even with the ongoing digital revolution, digital cameras can not quite match the appearance Film … But it is inevitable that celluloid will eventually become obsolete, it's just a matter of when, which is probably much later than most people think. The EX1 is a step towards the demonstration of fine digital cameras, as is the camera for less than $ 10,000 that can shoot in full 1080i resolution / P without the need for pixel shift or compress (like his comptetors HDV and DVCPRO). So price wise, there is no comparison: Digital is where it is …. When he Aesthetics is, however, although it is a different story … Side NOTE: If you are looking to reduce your production costs Digital I suggest you look at the Scarlet, which was released in the 1st quarter of '09. It is supposed to be about $ 3,000, This already 1 / 2 the price of the EX1. It requires support CF cards, which are a bit expensive, but less expensive than SxS media. But the thing about Scarlet is that it a whole lot better than the EX1 together …. It offers ways 3K shooting RAW, which is much higher resolution than 1080p res, found on the EX1. HD is an understatement Here, we speak Ultra High Definition. It also has a large 2 / 3 "CMOS sensor and up to 120fps shooting, and lots of other fun things we do even know yet! But if you're really worried achival on costs, it is probably safer to have a HDV camera …. Media Cheap … they are not as good as the cameras in the solid state as the EX1 or scarlet, but for marriages, good enough. The JVC HD110 and HD200, and the Canon XH-A1, Sony Z1U and some beautiful. Question: A good translucent, setting powder?

I’ve heard MAC studio fix does the job, but I don’t have a MAC or pretty much anything near me and so i can’t exactly tell which shade i am online. Also MAC is a little pricey for me, but if it works it works.

anyways, do you know a good translucent setting powder instead of mac studio fix? translucent meaning it will go on pretty much any skin tone?

Answer: I know Target carries a line “Boots” that has a very nice translucent powder in their Botanics Makeup Collection. It is a very fine powder that sets your makeup very nicely when used correctly. Try it out…it has worked for my clients ranging from very fair skin to a darker skin tone.

Good luck. If Boots is not available in the Target of your area, then go to CVS and try out the Neutrogena Translucent powder in medium.

The color comes from, if you use a needle, needle or a sharp knife xacto use to scratch it. Go slow and be careful. Once you are out to nail polish or model paint to get the color of your wishes. To paint it in with a small brush. For the formulation is in order if it is a little messy, because you can take a bit of acetone or nail polish remover and then wipe the excess with a soft cloth. Do not use too much acetone, just enough to dampen the cloth.
