Question: Has This Ever Happened To Anyone While Taking a Photo?
Ok. I did a photo shoot using a strobe and shoot through umbrella. I used light coming in from the back window as a hairlight. All went basically well, she was a lil over-exposed , but I was kind of aiming for that. Here’s the problem:
The side the light hit, her face and hair ….was all tack sharp. But the side that was lit by the light from the window was blurred. She never moved although it looks like she did. I was wondering, if it was the different kinds of light that made the camera take it like that. Or is the blur actually a tiny shadow?
I can’t post pics right now cause they would be very close to NSFW. But just based on my description (as horrible as it may be) has anyone else experienced that and can they tell me why it may have happened?
Answer: The strobe will freeze any movement. Look at the data on your photo and see what shutter speed you used. I’m guessing it is a pretty slow shutter speed. If there was movement, the areas lit by ambient light may be blurred. The area lit by the strobe will be sharp. Quite often that is an intentional result.
Another excellent place to find Umbrella Photo is on Amazon… They have way more than just books!

Question: Do I need permission from someone in a photo before you sell it?I was in New York and took a couple of photos of such artists, some of a couple standing under an umbrella, some of a saxophone player, etc. I need to contact these people and get permission before selling groped them or display them a gallery?
Answer: You know, I wonder how people post the answers here are very well written and make the poster look like a real expert, even if the answer is completely wrong. The first person who answered your question is a great example of this. The fact is that if a person poses for your photo, then that person is working as a model paid or unpaid and is required to get permission (preferably written permission) before using that photos. But if the person in a public place and not posing for the photo, then you can feel free to click everything you want and then use the photos. One exception is if the person has a reasonable expectation of privacy, as a person who is changing clothes or using the bathroom. And of course, if some government agent invokes "national security", then forget it and go from there.
