Answer: Depends how old it is. The current generation of Sig 70-200mm f2.8 is a brilliant lens, my friend has one, and I’m considering getting one. Price wise for £600 odd pounds new you get a lot for your money, OEM (Canon, Nikon and Sony ones) 70-200 2.8′s all cost at least £1000.

The Sigma 70-200 is a used as a cheap and fast lens by pros, and a less expensive choice for amateurs. You can’t beat Nikon’s own in IQ, but where else are you going to get that much performance for the money, and not care too much if it gets trashed. The range is quite good for portraits, street photography, and even sports, plus you can slot on a teleconverter to make it even more versatile.

It’s by no means flawless, but I don’t think there is another lens on the market that gives more bang for your buck.
